Music Composition (B.M.)

Indiana State University

Description:

The University offers a bachelor of music (B.M.) in music composition.

This program prepares students for graduate study in areas such as composition and theory—and is preparation for careers in composing, arranging, and related fields.

The music composition major includes coursework in basic and advanced composition, music theory, music history and literature, musicianship, and performance.

Each student receives a solid foundation in comprehensive, integrated musicianship by participating in performance ensembles, by taking private lessons, by attending concerts, and by studying piano, music technology, scoring, and conducting.

The School of Music's size is ideal for maximum student-to-faculty interaction while still providing wide-ranging opportunities for aspiring musicians. The distinguished faculty of performers and scholars shares an uncommonly strong commitment to teaching, research, experience-based learning, and each student's career development.

Other opportunities include the University's Honors Program and study abroad programs, which range from summer programs to a single semester or a full academic year in over 56 countries.

In addition to the University's regular admission process, there is a separate admission process for a student to be admitted as a music major. For further information, visit the School of Music.

Note: In addition to the music composition major (listed above), the School of Music offers a music minor and a general music teaching minor. A certificate program is available in piano pedagogy. Also offered are a music major with concentrations in merchandising or business administration, a music education major, a music liberal arts major, and a music performance major.
