Bachelor of Arts - Art
History Emphasis (57 semester hours)
The bachelor of arts with an emphasis in art history is designed
to provide the student with a broadly based academic and theoretical knowledge of the history
of art, enhanced by practical studio experience and support courses which will enable the
student to pursue graduate level work in art history.
Requirements :
18 hours of the core curriculum;
21 hours of upper-level art history courses (to include at least one course from each of
the major art history periods, and one course in art theory and criticism); 3 hours in
Philosophy 200 or a comparable course with the approval of the student¡¯s advisor;
3 hours in music history, 3 hours in literary history, and 3 hours in theater history,
selected in consultation with the student¡¯s advisor; and 6 hours of electives.
Assessment Information :
Students in their last semester shall submit a
representative example of their writing from one of their upper-level art history courses or
an independent study under the direction of one of the art history faculty. An optional oral
presentation of this work (accompanied by slides) may be incorporated with the exhibition of
work presented by students in the B.S. programs in studio, art education, and graphic design.

semester hours)
Requirements :
18 hours of the core curriculum, plus 9 hours
of electives in upper-level art history courses.
