REQUIREMENTS - Art Education Curricula
 

   

Teacher Licensure
The department offers a bachelor of science program which prepares a student to become licensed as a teacher of the visual arts. The 52-hour program provides for licensure to teach kindergarten-12 and to supervise art programs at these levels. Students should be thoroughly familiar with the requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program, and the teaching curriculum. Refer to the School of Education and the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology sections in this Catalog.

Art Education Major - All Grade  (52 semester hours)
 
This major may be added to the All Grade Instructional License; its coverage is grades K-12.

Requirements :
    18 hours of the core curriculum; 210—3 hrs.; 215--3 hrs.; 230--3 hrs.; 240--3 hrs.; 245--3 hrs.; 392--3 hrs.; 479A, B, or C--3 hrs.; 491--3 hrs.; 493--3 hrs.; 494--3 hrs.; 4 hrs. of art electives.
Required Professional Education :
    391--3 hrs. is required in the All Grade Professional Education sequence described in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology.
Assessment Information :
    Students in their last semester prior to student teaching shall present a representative example of their work (1-2 pieces) in an approved gallery setting and shall accompany that work with a unit/lesson plan. The work presented will be evaluated by the art education faculty, will be photographically documented, and a copy of the unit/leason plan will be retained.
  

   

 
Art Education Minor (24 semester hours)

This minor, added to the Senior High-Junior High/Middle School or All Grade Instructional License, will provide coverage in grades 5-12. This minor may also be added to the Early Childhood Education, Kindergarten/Primary Education, or Elementary Education Instructional License; its coverage will be the grade level of the instructional license.

Requirements :
    101--3 hrs.; 102--3 hrs.; 104--3 hrs.; 210--3 hrs.; 215--3 hrs.; 371 or 479A, B, or C--3 hrs.; 391 (required for a minor on All Grade, Senior High-Junior High/Middle School licenses) or 392--3 hrs. (required for the Early Childhood, Kindergarten/Primary, and Elementary Education licenses); and 3 hrs. of art electives.
