Go to http://blackboard.indstate.edu and login. Click on the link for your course site.
Once inside your site, click on Control Panel which is located on the bottom left hand side of the screen.

Now decide where you wish to have the syllabus. For this example, we will add the syllabus to Course Information. We will first create a folder for the syllabus and then add it by using “Item”. Click on Course Information.

The following screen now appears. Click on Folder.

Once you click on folder, a new screen appears. Add a folder name of your choice. For this example, we will use “Syllabus”. Now in the Text area, type in what will be found in this particular folder. You are beginning to establish a consistent pattern in terms of what students will see in your site. You may choose to place other documents in the syllabus folder. You may have various materials that you presently use in your face-to-face course that you would want to have in this folder in electronic form. You do not have to create a folder but the directions have been included here should you choose to do.

Scroll down to find the options. You can choose to make the content available or not available by clicking on the radio buttons: Yes or No. For this example, the folder/content will be visible.

You can also set the date and time restrictions by clicking on the check box and setting the settings.

Now that you have completed this part of the task, click Submit.

You will receive a message indicating that the folder was successfully added.

Click Ok.

Your folder has been added. On the right hand side of the screen, you can modify (or edit) the name or information about the folder if you wish to do so. Now click on the link for your Syllabus folder.

Add an item to the folder.

Type the name of the item.

We will add the syllabus as an attachment in section 2: Content.

In Section 2, browse for your attachment which could be an .HTML or MS Word document file.

The Choose file screen appears.

Select your file. Click Open.

Once you have selected your file and clicked open the path appears. Now type the name of the link for the file in the next text block (e.g.: “Syllabus”). For Special Action, select “Create a link to this file”.

In section 3, you can select various options. For this example, we will make the syllabus (the content) available. You may choose to track the number of views. You can also choose the dates that the attachment first becomes available and then the date at which the attachment is no longer available.

Click Submit.

Note: You will receive a success receipt. Click Ok.

Now, let's check to see that we can view the syllabus as the student would see it from the navigation page of your site. Following the bread crumb trail at the top of the screen, click on the link that denotes the name of the your course site. In this example, we would click on "Cleo's Graphics Course".
