By managing gradebook items, Blackboard is referring to creating new items, modifying existing items, or ordering items in the gradebook.
To manage your gradebook you must first log on to Blackboard and enter the course you wish to manage. Once the course is open, click on Control Panel in the lower left of the screen.

In the Control Panel screen locate Assessment and click on Gradebook.

When you click on Gradebook the View Spreadsheet screen opens. Click on the Manage Items icon.

The first thing you can do is to add an item to your gradebook. This follows the same procedure as outlined in the Blackboard tutorials, Adding an Item to your Gradebook.

You will need to give the item a unique name, and provide any other information you think is needed. Finishing by clicking on submit.

You can also arrange the order in which items appear in your grade book. This is done by selecting a number from the pull down menu next to the item.

The third thing you can do is to click on modify for any item already in your gradebook. To do this, click on the modify button associated with the item you wish to edit.

The screen that opens is the same screen you used to create the item originally. Here you can change settings and click on submit to finalize your changes. This screen can always be revisited and modifications made.

Once you are finished working in Managing Gradebook Settings, click on OK to return to the Control Panel screen.
