The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers the master of arts (M.A.) and the master of science (M.S.) degrees for academic criminologists and criminal justice professionals.

Both programs are appropriate for working criminal justice professionals who wish to improve their academic credentials for career advancement or to acquire academic credentials for new careers.

Note: Due to the popularity of this program, applicants may be "wait-listed" pending an opening.

Master of Arts (M.A.) in Criminology and Criminal Justice—36 Credit Hours

The master of arts is a 36-credit-hour program designed for students who intend to continue their graduate studies toward the doctorate in criminology, criminal justice, or other fields. The emphasis of this program is research. A thesis is required and is viewed as preparatory work for the rigors of a doctoral dissertation.

Master of Science (M.S.) in Criminology and Criminal Justice—36 Credit Hours

The master of science is a 36-credit-hour program designed for students who intend this as their terminal degree (or for persons who plan to attend law school). Graduates possess the knowledge required for professional practice in criminal justice careers and the skills needed to be intelligent, critical consumers of research information.

Course Delivery
In-state, out-of-state, and international students can complete these degrees entirely through distance learning. All necessary courses are offered via the Internet, and are taught by the same graduate faculty who teach the on-campus courses.

Application Deadlines
The deadline for submitting applications is October 1 for spring admission and March 1 for summer and fall admission. These deadlines will guarantee timely decisions but not rule out late applicants.
