Alex Noppe
Alex Noppe performs throughout the Midwest, holding trumpet positions with the Columbus-Indiana Philharmonic and Terre Haute Symphony and previously with the Lansing Symphony. He regularly plays with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Bach Collegium, and is an active studio musician in Indianapolis. Also a jazz musician, he plays with the Stardusters Jazz Orchestra and has performed with the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, Hal Leonard Jazz Orchestra, and David Baker Big Band. Alex has won multiple prizes from the International Trumpet Guild, and has appeared at the Detroit Jazz Festival and International Association for Jazz Educators Conference. He is a founding member of the Mirari Brass Quintet.
Alex is on faculty at Indiana State University, where he directs the jazz ensemble, and has also taught at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Depauw University. He spends summers in residency at The Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary, where he serves as Director of Jazz. He has had compositions and arrangements premiered by the University of Michigan Jazz Ensemble and the Arbor Brass Choir, and is currently working on research involving teaching & learning and performance kinesthetics.
Alex is currently completing a Doctor in Music in Brass Literature and Pedagogy at Indiana University. He previously completed a Masters in Music at Indiana, studying with John Rommel, Anthony Plog, and David Baker, and holds dual bachelors degrees in trumpet performance and jazz studies from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Bill Campbell, Bill Lucas, and Dennis Wilson.
