Mitchell, Krasnican to perform Nov. 9

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Music faculty members Randy Mitchell and Martha Krasnican will perform as part of the Indiana State University Faculty Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing and Fine Arts.

Compositions performed with Krasnican include "Cavatine" by Camille Saint-Saëns, Eric Ewazen's "Adagio" and Donald White's "Sonata for Trombone and Piano."

Mitchell will be joined by music faculty members Todd Gallagher, bass; and Brent McPike, guitar; along with Tom Whiteman, drums and Chris Bales, piano, members of the Student Jazz Combo on additional musical selections.

A native of Evansville, Mitchell has been on the music faculty at Indiana State since 1990. He recently completed a three year period serving as interim chairperson of the music department. The 2009-2010 school year marks his return to the trombone/euphonium studio as well as his 20th year of teaching at ISU. A 1974 music education alum of Indiana State, he holds degrees in trombone performance from the University of Louisville and the University of North Texas.

He is a member of the ISU Faculty Brass Quintet and principal trombone of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra and the Danville Symphony Orchestra. He is also an original member of the Ambassador Brass Quintet. Mitchell has performed and taught in Germany, Austria, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and China.

Krasnican is the director of the accompanying program at ISU and principal keyboardist with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. She graduated with distinction from the Eastman School of Music. As a collaborative artist, she has worked with major performers across North America and Europe, including engagements with the Western Horn Symposium and several World Saxophone Congresses. Krasnican has performed as a soloist with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, premiering two piano concertos written for her by her husband, Daniel Powers.
