The Indy Jazz Company will open Indiana State University's Jazz Artist Series presenting "The Best of Blue Note" on Sunday afternoon.
The free concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the recital hall of the Center for Performing and Fine arts, 300 N. 7th Street.
The band is comprised of outstanding jazz artists from Indianapolis: Clifford Ratliff, trumpet; Rob Dixon, saxophone; Steven Jones, piano; Frank Smith, bass; and Greg Autry, drums.
Blue Note recordings, founded in 1939 by German émigrés Alfred Lion and Francis Wollf, represent the best of hard bop and avant garde with artists like Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson and Herbie Hancock.
