Schick Lecture to feature Gary Scharnhorst on Feb. 23

The Schick Lecture Series on Language, Literature and Lexicography at Indiana State University will host Gary Scharnhorst, distinguished professor emeritus of English at the University of New Mexico, on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 3:30pm.
Scharnhorst's presentation will speak on, "Bret Harte's ‘Plain Language from Truthful James' and the ‘Chinese Question'" in Root Hall A-264 with a reception following in A-269-270.
Scharnhorst received his Ph.D. in American studies from Purdue University and has taught at Stuttgart University, Heidelburg University and the University of Texas at Dallas. The author of 10 critical and biographical studies, he has edited the letters of Harte and the interviews of Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde, as well as several realist and naturalist novels.
Scharnhorst has received fellowships from Huntington Library, Radcliffe College, Lilly Library and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He previously served as the general editor of numerous volumes of American Literary Scholarship and is the current editor of American Literary Realism.
The Schick Lecture Series in Language, Literature and Lexicography was started in 1988 and is made possible through a bequest from Joseph S. Schick, professor emeritus of English.
