IT Work Experience Program FAQ

For Indiana State University undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science, Electronics and Computer Technology, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, and other computer-related programs.

What is the IT Work Experience Program?
The IT Work Experience Program is a part-time job working with real-world organizations in which you perform duties that are closely related to the specialized skills that you have chosen to study in computer-related programs at Indiana State University. The IT Work Experience Program is designed to be a training experience in which you are expected to implement the skills that you have learned. You may also receive course credit for the IT Work Experience Program, please contact your faculty advisor for more information.

Who would benefit from the IT Work Experience Program?
Students who have an undergraduate junior or senior status and are currently majoring in Computer Science, Electronics and Computer Technology, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or other computer-related programs.

Why should I apply for the  IT Work Experience Program?
The IT Work Experience Program is an excellent way to transition from an academic environment to the business world. You can apply what you have learned, and receive valuable on-the-job training as well. Also, this work experience is paid. The payment is in the range of $8 - $10 / hour.

When can I participate in the IT Work Experience Program?
Plan to do the IT Work Experience Program in your junior/senior year of your degree program. In the fall or spring semester you will be expected to commit to 20 hours per week, in minimum 4 hour blocks. In the summer, you will be expected to commit to full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week. The duration is to be determined by the IT Work Experience Program Coordinator.

How do I get credit for the IT Work Experience Program?
This may vary by the program you are enrolled in. See your faculty advisor for information applicable to your particular program.

Who arranges the IT Work Experience?
The Faculty Screening Committee will screen and forward qualified candidates to the IT Work Experience Program Coordinator. The coordinator and the STS Project Coordinator will then interview qualified candidates, then notify the candidates to make an offer or that the position has been filled.

How do I apply for the IT Work Experience Program?
Please email an electronic copy of your cover letter and resume in MS Word format to the coordinator at OIT-Internship@indstate.edu.
NOTE: Please indicate the semester you wish to work.

Application schedule.
Summer and Fall semesters: Accepting applications anytime, selection made in April.
Spring semester: Accepting applications anytime, selection made in November.
