Description
On Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:30 p.m. in Tilson Music Hall, the ISU Concert Band will present a program paying tribute to American composer, conductor, and lecturer Leonard Bernstein. The concert is part of the worldwide centennial of Bernstein’s birth and is entitled “Bernstein at 100.”
The evening will be filled with lively and lyrical music from many of Bernstein’s musicals and theatrical productions will be featured, including “West Side Story,” “Fancy Free,” “Mass,” and “Candide.”
Scott Buchanan, Director of the School of Music and Director of Choral Activities, will perform as baritone soloist on the Simple Song from “Mass.” The University Chorale will join the Concert Band on Make Our Garden Grow from “Candide.”
The Concert Band performance is free and open to the public, and a reception for all performers and audience members will take place after the program.
This unique ensemble is primarily made up of adult musicians from the community, non-music majors, and major education majors learning secondary instruments. For more information about the performance and the ISU Concert Band, please contact conductor Doug Keiser at d.keiser@indstate.edu.
