Matthew Mazzotta Visiting Artist Talk

In partnership with Art Spaces, the Department of Art and Design and Department of Multidisciplinary Studies are pleased to invite the public to attend a talk by visiting artist Matthew Mazzotta on Thursday, September 13th at 5:00 pm in the University Art Gallery located in the Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts. Mr. Mazzotta will be in residency in the Ryves Neighborhood in Terre Haute for several days in September and again in February, supported by an Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. 

Mazzotta’s community-specific projects focus on the power of the built environment to shape our relationships and experiences and integrate new forms of civic participation and social engagement. He begins each project by creating temporary public spaces for listening, or what he calls an Outdoor Living Room as a way to capture voices from local people that might not attend more formal meetings. From those sessions, he designs participatory and engaging artworks to enliven neighborhoods and public places. 

Mazzotta received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a Master’s of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Program in Art, Culture and Technology, and is currently a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University. He has won numerous awards for his public works.
