Dr. Somer R. Nourse completed an Associate Degree in Nursing in 2001 and a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from Indiana State University in 2003. She completed a Master of Science with a focus in Nursing Education from Indiana State University in 2012. Somer completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Indiana University School of Nursing at IUPUI in 2015. Her doctoral inquiry project investigated the impact of pre-discharge scheduling of follow-up appointments on 30-day readmission rates for heart failure patients. She has worked as a medical/surgical nurse since 2002, working for both Union Hospital and the Indiana University Health system.
Somer's interests include global health, medical/surgical nursing, and community health. She is actively involved in Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing. Somer lives in Terre Haute, Indiana with her family and enjoys running, reading, and hiking.
