The need for qualified health care professionals versed in interprofessional practice is growing with an increased need between 25-44% through 2020.  The Applied Medicine major is designed to ensure that students obtain the required pre-requisites for a professional program in Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Physical Therapy.

In fact, students who complete the Applied Medicine major in the top 10% of their class and meet program requirements are granted an automatic interview for Indiana State University’s professional programs (OT, PA and PT).  Post-graduation, students may also obtain employment in medical sales as a physician extender or medical office administrator.

The coursework in the department emphasizes strong theoretical foundations within each of the areas of applied medicine, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students also benefit from hands-on clinical education and / or classroom experiences with health care professionals.
