Vigo County Public Library has named Elizabeth Scamihorn as strategic engagement manager, a new position within the administrative team, and has hired Garrett Brown as its new communications manager.

Scamihorn has served as the Library’s public relations manager since 2013 where she established and managed the public relations department, led the library’s rebranding campaign, directed strategic communication efforts to generate awareness of library programs and services, and designed and implemented tactics in support of the vision and mission of the Vigo County Public Library.

The library’s recent launch of its 2019-2023 Strategic Plan established a bold vision for how the library will serve residents of Vigo County for the next five years and beyond. Looking to build new relationships, strengthen current partnerships, equip library staff and empower those who call Vigo County home – the new position, strategic engagement manager, was crafted to design and facilitate strategic planning processes that meet the changing needs of the library and community.

Scamihorn’s new role will focus on strategic partnerships and initiatives that translate into resources and relationships to position the library as a community cornerstone and a catalyst for progress. In this position, Scamihorn will guide Library staff and community partners to achieve strategic goals and initiatives that are creatively and purposefully designed to generate change and transform lives of Vigo County individuals, families, organizations and businesses.

Scamihorn is a graduate of Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in speech communications public relations and journalism. She is an active board member of TREES Inc., Keep Terre Haute Beautiful committee; Art Spaces, Inc., education committee; Public Relations Society of America, Hoosier Chapter; and Indiana Library Federation, communications committee.

Brown joins the library’s management team to help further promote the library’s mission to generate positive change in the community by creating an environment of opportunity in which people can explore, expand their perspectives and transform their own lives and the lives of future generations. This includes working toward the library’s strategic plan established earlier this year. Brown plans to increase the library’s social media presence and incorporate video marketing.

Brown is a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. Prior to accepting this role, he served as a journalist at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute.
