JASPER — Jasper attorney John Collins clocks in every day knowing he has the ability to make a significant difference in someone’s life.

He loves his job because he gets to leave that positive impact, and since opening the Collins Law Group LLC office on West 41st Street in March, he now gets to do so on his own terms.

“It’s the ability to make a critical difference in people’s lives, just in your routine work,” Collins, who is a board-certified trust and estate attorney, said of his work. “So, when I walk through the door every morning, sit down at my desk, start to work — many of those days I don’t know exactly how I’ll be able to impact people’s lives. But I know that it’s going to happen because of the kinds of things that I deal with, the issues that I deal with.”

Collins has lived in Jasper with his family for 14 years while working for a variety of regional firms. Now, he is eager to grow under his own direction.

After taking business and criminology classes early during schooling at Indiana State University, he knew law was the field for him. He then traveled north to Valparaiso for law school.

Following that, the Castle High School graduate quickly returned to the Evansville-Newburgh area, where he worked with a solo practitioner for a year before joining the then-largest law firm in the city of Evansville.

He landed a partner position at the then-Bingham McHale firm in Jasper in 2005 and worked there for nearly a decade. Next, he joined an Evansville-based firm, while continuing to live and serve clients in Jasper.

Fast forward to March 2019. Collins knew it was time for him to open his own firm.

“It’s been very exciting,” he said. “The idea of running your own business, having your own business, making all of your own decisions, including, particularly, how you’re gonna assist clients and service them, that level of control and management has been very positive and very exciting for me. And that’s one of the primary reasons why I did it.”

Collins specializes in trust and estate work. He handles real estate cases, business formation and transactional matters, elder law, guardianships and adoptions, and some criminal law.

“There’s a lot of things going on out here,” he said. “So, I like to keep it interesting.”

He encouraged readers to come to his office because he runs his own shop and doesn’t answer to out-of-town partners when it comes to the clients he represents. Collins is in the business of taking care of those who come to him for help, he said.

“I’m the final-decision maker,” he said. “And I’m darn good at what I do.”

The best way to contact Collins is to call him at his Jasper office. That phone number is 556-0110. The address is 225 W. 41st St., Suite B. He also has an Evansville office, located at 7201 E. Virginia St., Suite B.

More information about the local attorney can be found at johncollinslegal.com. Collins schedules appointments with clients at his Jasper office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. He doesn’t have set office hours in Evansville, but meets with clients by appointment.

Upon request, he will also see clients on Saturdays.

Collins resides in Jasper with his wife, Nicole, and the couple’s children: Ava, 16; Jack, 13; and Graham, 9.

“We’ve lived here basically 14 years now,” Collins said. “We love it. We really like the family atmosphere combined with the business atmosphere that Jasper offers.”
