After growing up in neighboring Clinton, IN, I began my secondary education at Indiana State, studying studio art. I graduated in 2010 with a BFA in 3D Art, focusing on sculpture and printmaking. After finishing my studies at ISU, I first entered the museum world as an attendant at the Swope Art Museum. I also pieced together odd design jobs and worked as an in-store artist at a small screen printing shop.

Throughout my studies, I always knew I wanted to pursue a master’s degree and teach at the collegiate level. A year out of my undergrad, I moved to Portland, Oregon for my graduate studies at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. It was at PNCA that I learned the craft of letterpress, which landed me my first job after finishing my Masters of Fine Arts in Visual Studies. I worked at a small letterpress and paper making shop where I printed custom invitations, business cards and other paper ephemera.

In 2014, I moved back home to Terre Haute. One day I was walking around downtown, admiring the positive changes, and happened upon my former boss from the Swope. She asked what I was doing back in town, to which I said, “Looking for a job!” I started again as a Museum Attendant, and began volunteering to help install exhibitions and do general archival work. This led to a more substantial part-time position as a Curatorial Assistant, then full time as the Registrar—maintaining records and installing exhibitions. In March of 2018, I was promoted to Curator and now plan exhibitions and programming for the Museum, while managing the collection, interns and preparators.

Over the past few years, I have also had the honor of adjunct teaching at Indiana State—both studio courses and currently art history. I love having the opportunity to be a part of the art department I learned so much from, and helping students develop their skills, creative problem-solving and professional development. The courses I took at ISU continue to affect my methods of working and teaching, appreciation of craftsmanship and do-it-yourself mentality.
