I chose to attend ISU because… The piano faculty here is fantastic and extremely qualified. ISU offers a piano pedagogy certificate, which is an incredible opportunity. In the state of Indiana, it is one of the few colleges that offer it in their undergraduate programs. Once I had a sample lesson with Dr. Simms, the choice was easy.
When I have free time, I like… hanging out with my friends. I have met some of the most amazing people here at Indiana State. My friends have shaped me into a better person and musician. I also like making arts and crafts, traveling, and cooking.
My favorite places on campus to study are… Under a tree, on a bench, at a table. Anywhere outside is ideal.
My favorite professor is… This is an unfair question because all of the School of Music faculty are amazing…..but to name a few: Dr. Palmberg, Dr. Simms, Professor Weinstein, Professor Mannell, and Dr. Dean.
If I could share an afternoon with anyone, I would love to share it with… It may sound a bit cliché, but I would want to spend the day with my friends. Time spent with a friend is never wasted.
If I knew I could not fail, I would… find my soulmate.
After graduation, I plan to… pursue my Master’s in Piano Performance and eventually one day get my doctorate. I would love to teach piano at a university. I also really enjoying accompanying.
The one ISU experience I will always remember is/will be… I will always remember my first performance during recital hour.
If I knew then what I know now, I would… Put myself out there more. We are ALL capable of a lot more than we credit ourselves.
If I could serve as a mentor for future ISU music students, I would tell them/suggest that they… Trust the process, but hold yourself accountable. If you are struggling in a class, ask for help. Studying with your friends is invaluable. Savor every moment. Much like life itself, college has its ups and downs. Work hard, make everlasting friendships, and enjoy the journey!
