Pizza and Politics: Beading Across Identities-Privilege in the U.S.

Students will participate in an activity that highlights the ways in which we are privileged (or not) based on our identities from sexuality to ability to race to class. This highly interactive experience will conclude with a reflection on how privilege impacts our daily lives and influences public policy and political outcomes. Pizza and cookies will be provided.

State of the Union tweet-up

Join the campus community to watch President Trump’s State of the Union Address (and tweet along the way). An introduction to SOTUs past and present will precede the address, and pizza and cookies will be provided.

Sponsored by the American Democracy Project and Cunningham Memorial Library.

Indiana State Day at the Indiana Statehouse

The American Democracy Project will be taking students to the Indiana State Capitol for the annual ISU Day at the Statehouse on February 26. Here, students will have the opportunity to meet state legislators, discuss their work and activities at Indiana State, and tour the capitol building. This is a great opportunity to see government-in-action. Students will be attending as representatives of departments or student organizations.

Celebrate National Handwriting Day at Cunningham Memorial Library

Do you take notes on a laptop, or by hand? Studies of college-aged students show that writing by hand is a big benefit over typing notes into your laptop.

Did you know that your signature is unique?

Did you know that many bloggers and writers believe that writing by hand connects them to their emotions and inner self in a way that keyboards can’t?

National Handwriting Day is associated with Jan. 23 (John Hancock’s birthday), the man with the famously large signature on the Declaration of Independence, and highlights the importance of writing by hand.
