Peace Walk

A gathering for those disturbed by the recent injustices that have occurred against Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and others. You are invited to join us. The African American Cultural Center is available for support for people of color and allies. The center's staff are currently located in Rankin Hall, Room 426.

Speaker Series: David Quammen

David Quammen is an author and journalist whose books include The Song of the Dodo (1996), The Reluctant Mr. Darwin (2006) and Spillover (2012), a work on the science, history, and human impacts of emerging diseases (especially viral diseases), which was short-listed for eight national and international awards and won three. In the past thirty years he has published several hundred works of literature, including pieces for National Geographic. David will come to Tilson and lecture on pandemics, emerging diseases, and Charles Darwin.

Speaker Series: Mary Lou Retton

Mary Lou Retton catapulted to international fame by winning the All-Around Gold Medal in women¹s gymnastics at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, becoming the first American woman ever to win a gold medal in gymnastics. After collecting several additional medals in her Olympic career, she has retired as a gymnast and now travels the world as a motivational speaker, corporate spokesperson, and "Fitness Ambassador". Retton will be giving a presentation on "The Competitive Edge".

Speaker Series: Elizabeth Smart

The kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart has been one of the most followed abduction cases of our time. After being taken from her home in 2002, she was safely returned to her family nine months later. Through this traumatic experience, she has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation. Elizabeth will be gracing the Tilson stage with a presentation entitled "Overcoming Adversity: The Elizabeth Smart Story".
