Screening of "Replanted"

"Replanted" is a documentary focusing on international students living in Terre Haute, Indiana. Half a world away from their home countries, they are replanted in a place completely new to them. This documentary explores their struggles and challenges during their study in this small town, and their takes on social circle, cultural differences, and future uncertainties in the U.S. This project is funded by the University Arts Endowment Committee and is created and directed by Dr. Haijing Tu.

The event is open to the public. Admission is free.

Theodore Dreiser Visiting Writers Series: Dinty W. Moore

The Theodore Dreiser Visiting Writers Series welcomes creative nonfiction writer and editor Dinty W. Moore, who will give a reading of his work in the University Art Gallery, located in the Landini Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

This event is free and open to the public.

Dinty W. Moore is author of the memoir Between Panic & Desire, the writing guide Crafting the Personal Essay, and numerous other books. He has published essays and stories in The Georgia Review, Harpers, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, The Normal School, and elsewhere.

The Vagina Monologues

This is the 20th anniversary of Eve Ensler's play about women and their feelings about their bodies. Come join Feminist Majority for the 2019 V-day event! Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 or $5 with student ID. Proceeds to CODA and the V-Day Foundation. TVM highlights taboos and women's experiences with relationships, body issues, gender norms, sexuality and sexual assault. Feminist Majority is producing this play to help take a stand against gender-based violence.

Drop of Lavender LGBTQIA+ Conference

The summit will be a one-day conference intended to promote the University’s Inclusive Excellence pillar by offering inclusive education and programming to a growing LGBTQIA+ student population. The summit is based around the MBLGTACC conference held each February, and is considered thelargest LGBTQIA+ conference in the midwest, drawing such speakers as Laverne Cox, offering a closer-to-home conference.

WHO expert, panel to celebrate health communication

The department of communication presents Celebrating Health Communication with a panel discussion of experiences in research and practice followed by a Q&A. Panelists research interests include: metaphors; race and ethnicity; flu vaccine hesitation; depictions of health in the media; and opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. After a brief intermission, the keynote address is set to start at 5:30 p.m. An expert in social and behavioral change for the World Health Organization, Dr. John Parrish-Sprowl will present Communication for Whole Health.
