Ted PiechocinskiTheodore Piechocinski, Professor and Director of ISU's Music Business Program holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, an M.M. in saxophone performance from New Mexico State University, and a B.S. in music education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Prior to joining ISU's faculty, he had extensive experience in the music industry as a music/copyright attorney and as a music publishing senior executive at Cherry Lane Music Co. in New York City, Ludwig Music Publishing in Cleveland, OH, FJH Music Co. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and MusicExpresso, an innovative online music publishing venture.

At Cherry Lane Music, Prof. Piechocinski negotiated and drafted print publishing deals to represent such diverse artists as Metallica, Van Halen, Dave Matthews Band, Joe Satriani, Bonnie Raitt, Barbra Streisand, and "Weird" Al Yankovic, among many others. He also negotiated numerous international licenses for foreign editions of educational materials. While working in New York City, he also served on the Board of Directors for the Music Publisher's Association of the United States.  Throughout his career, he has spoken at numerous national and international conferences, conventions, and symposia of students, educators, music retailers, and music publishers on a variety of music industry-related topics.

The Music IndustryIn the summer of 2006, Professor Piechocinski was a visiting professor at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music - South Campus, in Shenyang, China where he taught an introductory music business course to Chinese students.  He has written many published articles on copyright and other industry-related topics and serves as an active advisor and consultant to artists, institutions, and publishing companies across the country. Professor Piechocinski is the author of The Music Industry, Where Creativity Meets Business, a comprehensive text book about the music industry published in October 2020 by Northeastern Music Publications.
