CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS (C & PA) SCHOLARSHIPS
(ART SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION)
Description: The C & PA scholarships were established for and are based in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Open to: Qualified students already accepted to ISU must possess: at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA; have completed a "Core 40" or other college-preparatory high-school diploma; and have declared a major in the Art and Design Department. Up to 10 Creative and Performing Arts Awards and renewable for 4 years will be awarded. Awardees must enroll in a major within the Department of Art and Design. The award is forfeited if the student changes to a major outside of the Department of Art and Design.
Number of Awards Available Annually: Up to ten recipients.

INDIANA ARTIST-CRAFTSMEN/TALBOT STREET ART FAIR SCHOLARSHIP
Description: The Indiana Artist-Craftsmen/Talbot Street Art Fair Scholarship was established in 1988 by Indiana Artist-Craftsmen, Inc. and Talbot Street Art Fair to honor Georgetta Snell Lucas and Joan King Kisner for their many years of service to both organizations. Georgetta Snell Lucas, President of Indiana Artist Craftsmen, earned the bachelors degree in 1942 from Indiana State University. Joan King Kisner, Chairperson of the Talbot Street Art Fair, also received the bachelors degree in 1960 from Indiana State as well as a masters degree in 1967.
Open to: Undergraduate art student
Selection Criteria: Deserving undergraduate student (s) demonstrating talent and proficiency, majoring in Art, to further their art education at Indiana State University.
Number of Awards Given Annually: One recipient.
How to Apply: Based on faculty selection, the Recruitment/Scholarship Committee coordinates and makes recommendations to the Chairperson of the Department. However, students must have current information entered into the Branch ISU site in order to be eligible

ELMER J. PORTER SCHOLARSHIP
Description: Family and friends of Elmer J. Porter established an endowed scholarship fund to be administered by the Indiana State University Foundation, for the benefit of a student or students, enrolled in Indiana State University. Elmer J. Porter was a professor of Art at Indiana State University from 1946 to 1973. He served as Chairman of the Department of Art at Indiana State University for many years. He earned his undergraduate degree from Art Institute of Chicago and completed his masters degree from Ohio State University in 1938. The scholarship was established by his family and friends after his death in 1996.
Open to: Undergraduate and graduate students of the Department of Art and Design
Selection Criteria: Deserving students enrolled in the Department of Art and Design at ISU
Number of Awards Given Annually: Total of two awards: one in fall, and one in spring.
How to Apply: Based on selection by cognitive faculty, the Recruitment/Scholarship Committee coordinates and makes recommendations to the Chairperson of the Department. However, students must have current information entered into the Branch ISU site in order to be eligible for this award.

JONATHAN K. BAKER MEMORIAL PRIZE
Description: The Jonathan K. Baker Memorial Prize was established by his family following his death in April of 1997. In 1989 Jon won the Junior Honors Art Award at Indiana University. He received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Indiana University in 1992 and was preparing to attain his masters degree. In honor of Jonathan's talent, this prize will be given annually to an undergraduate art student for a black and white drawing submitted to the Juried Student Art Show in spring.
Open to: Undergraduate art student
Selection Criteria: Award shall be given to an Indiana State university undergraduate art student for a black and white drawing or print submitted to the juried student art show each spring.
Number of Awards Given Annually: One recipient.
How to Apply: Submit a black and white drawing or print to the Juried Student Art Show in spring. Students must have current information entered into the Branch ISU site in order to be eligible for this award.

MARK S. HANNIG SCHOLARSHIP IN ART
Description: The Mark S. Hannig Scholarship in Art was established in 1998 through a generous contribution from Shelton and Muriel Hannig to honor the memory of their son, Mark S. Hannig. Always a good student, Mark excelled in the sciences and went on to graduate from MIT as an Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineer. As a licensed pilot for single engine aircraft he did agricultural flying and was a Bush Pilot in the wilderness of Alaska while spending his summers in Vermont as an instructor in soaring. With over two thousand hours, including twin-engine aircraft, he continued in Private Aviation. Mark died in an aircraft accident in 1978, at the age of 24, in the mountains of Washington State while working for the U.S. Government. This scholarship is to assist other young people is a memorial to Marks gentle personality, his calm manner and his analytical mind.

KRAIG A. GIBBONS MEMORIAL AWARD FOR SCULPTURE
Description: Kraig Alan Gibbons graduated from Indiana State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He also completed course work towards a graduate degree from 1981 to 1982. Kraig was one of few students who took sculpture classes at ISU during his junior and senior years of high school. Working as a freelance artist from 1985 until 1993 he designed over 78 floats for the Tournament of Roses Parade, winning 15 banners including Sweepstakes in 1990 and 1993. He also designed award winning entries for the Indianapolis 500 Parade, Fiesta Bowl Parade, 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, Coca Cola 100th Anniversary Parade, Atlanta, Ga., and Presidents Bush and Clintons Inaugural Parades. His works of fine art were accepted in 33 juried exhibitions, and in addition, a solo exhibition was held at the Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, Indiana. Kraig always encouraged individuals, young and old, to be aware of art in the world around them and to develop their own creativity and art appreciation.

Selection Criteria: Sculpture student enrolled full time in the ISU Department of Art and Design.
Number of Awards Given Annually: One recipient.
How to Apply: The recipient shall be selected based on work submitted for the ISU Juried Student Exhibition, and selected by faculty in Sculpture area. Students must have current information entered into the Branch ISU site in order to be eligible for this award.

MARIAN J. FRUTIGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ART
Description: This scholarship came to the Department of Art and Design from the estate of Marian Frutiger. Born in Staunton, Indiana, she attended ISU and graduated in 1930 with a degree in Art and Social Studies. In 1954, she married Gustave Frutiger in Houston, Texas where, for many years, she taught art in the public schools.
Open to: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students of the Department of Art and Design, Indiana State University.
Selection Criteria: Recipients must be full-time undergraduate or graduate art students. Undergraduate students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and graduate students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
Number of Awards Given Annually: One recipient.
How to Apply: Based on selection by the faculty, the Recruitment/Scholarship Committee coordinates and makes recommendations to the Chairperson of the Department. Award is made at the Juried Student Show in spring. Students must have current information entered into the Branch ISU site in order to be eligible for this award.

CORY D. LEMON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Description: Open to deserving full-time undergraduate student(s) demonstrating talent and proficiency, majoring in Art, to further their art education at Indiana State University.
